Academic Advisement

Every student who enters William Paterson University with a declared major is assigned to a faculty advisor in his or her major department. First-Year Seminar instructors advise first-year students who have not selected a major. In addition, the Gloria S. Williams Advisement Center is available for all first-year and transfer students. The academic advisor is the student's advocate, facilitator and copilot through the navigation of university life. Specific responsibilities include mapping and explaining degree requirements; providing advice on course selection; monitoring student progress; providing information on academic policies and procedures; and assisting students with exploring major fields of study and career options.
